Artist Crush: Steven Brahms

Steven Brahms’ portraits (via Changethethought) are fascinating looks into the everyday lives of regular people and not-so-regular people (i.e. eccentrics living off the grid). Every photograph has an unmistakable degree of irony… what seems normal to Brahms’ subjects seems strange or funny to the viewer. But rather than simply mock the banalities of his subjects’ lives, Brahms captures moments that are also intriguing and beautiful in their own strange, awkward way.

My work is about this state of mind. The photographs are physical accounts of interior journeys, remnants of future moments that trigger and transform our collective unconscious. The images I make are catalysts for transformation, experiments, happenings and perceived demonstrations that not only reveal gesture, environment, and experience, but also memory and innate understanding.
