Artist Crush: Sally Ross

February 5th, 2016 · 2 Comments

Sally Ross is an Australian artist whose paintings are all about texture and the illusion of movement. Her landscapes often feature bodies of water, formed by deep blue undulating ripples. These bolts of blue are rough-hewn, like patches sewn together in a quilt, giving off the impression of water in an abstracted sense more than resembling the real thing. Remarking on Ross’ equally interesting portraits Dan Rule wrote, “We’re drawn to the figure only to become lost in the rippling pointilist hairdo.” The same can be said of the waves and leaves in her landscapes.
