Sally Gill has a show through October 23rd at 571 Projects in NYC. The work is planetary and expansive but also wrought with very human patterns and detailing. Mixing these disparate worlds seems to be at the heart of Gill’s mixed-media pieces.
“Drawn to archetypes and patterns, her work references the universe and instances of genesis. On top of her collaged surface, Gil paints out large areas, in effect editing with black or white. Taking cues from the remaining fragments she draws repetitious details with ink and brush, into patterns of her own devising… paper doilies and images of flowers reference handiwork and gardening.” – 571 Projects
