Design Crush: Fred Shand

March 29th, 2011 · 1 Comment

This is Brit textile designer Fred Shand’s line of quilts for Anthropologie which I spotted over on of paper and things. The quilts were made by artisans in Delhi, London and New York City. I know Anthropologie has a bad track record with creatives so it’s nice to see that in their “gallery” at least they are focusing on the designers, not solely the finished product.

Anthropologie shows the quilts on beds but for $900 I’m inclined to view these as decorative pieces. Right?

Design Crush: stellar quilts

Jimmy McBride makes quilts unlike any I’ve ever seen. McBride takes his inspiration from space – a decidedly modern and masculine theme. As an aside: Isn’t it funny how some creative domains like the food and fashion industries are full of men yet something like quilting is still so women-oriented? I find that kind of thing fascinating.

The artist is based in Brooklyn and is showing at the Architectural Digest Home Design Show in New York next month. The quilts below are all for sale in his etsy shop.

Shop Crush: Carson Too

Beautiful, modern hand-made quilts and accessories by Carson Converse available in her etsy shop. I love the simple patterns, attention to detail, and most of all, the amazing colors!

My work combines the rich American tradition of quilting with a modern sensibility. Each piece is the result of a passion for modern art and design combined with an appreciation of traditional craftsmanship. The quilts shown are intended as functional contemporary quilts for the modern nursery, however all quilts are easily converted into wall hangings and can be customized to any size.
