Pepa Prieto is an artist from Spain currently living in Brooklyn. She paints heavy, overloaded landscapes which appear to be melting in front of our eyes.

Prior to seeing her featured on Boooooom last week, I hadn’t seen anything by Pepa Prieto in a long while. It turns out these paintings are all from 2011. I’m really impressed with the added depth and intensity in this newer work. It still has bits and pieces of her signature hyper-graphic style, but she seems to be working with (and mixing together) a range of visual languages.

The other day I came across the extraordinary artist, Pepa Prieto, on Doodlers Anonymous. Prieto is totally committed to her idiocyncratic style and point of view and out of this dedication comes art that that is truly original. What’s also interesting is that while Prieto shows her work in galleries, she also does commercial projects and has recently worked with MTV, Pony, Element skateboards, Poketo, and Salomon snowboards.
Check out Pepa’s new work in the slideshow below and her installation at Iguapop Gallery in Barcelona.
