Erna Reiken is an artist from the Netherlands who tried her hand at other things before going to art school at age 34.
My paintings are about people, often women, and the way they take or are given space. They are about presence and absence. About seeing and being seen. These subjects are closely related to my personal development and how I relate to my own environment. They are about insecurities, victories, shame and pride.

Raw Color is a visual research project in The Netherlands based on colors and dyes extracted from vegetables (via Pinterest). Somehow what seems like a series of tedious, old-fashioned experiment (vegetable dyes?!) produced stunning, artful specimens of paper, liquid and fabric. In particular, I am totally enamored with the way the various colors bleed into the paper and produce their own colored geographies.
