These are images of Alan Reid’s vaguely art deco, vaguely John Currin-esque show, The Chameleon at A Palazzo in Brescia, Italy. Reid’s portraits are of “light” subject matter; however, the unique fusion of classical and modern visual motifs is quite special. And what a splendid exhibition space! Not to mention really wonderful art. I am jonesing to see these exhibits in person.

I do believe that (good) fashion is art, but to be honest it’s rare that I find myself inspired by fashion in the same way that I am by art. And while high fashion has its own seductive language, it is conceived in such a narrow, limited context. Even edgy, artistic fashion must still embue sex appeal, luxury and a brand. It’s the “out there” conceptual fashion, forging altogether new aesthetics, like Georgina Santiago’s Minutiae, that inspires me for real. This is the epitome of “fashion as art” in my book.
As for the work itself, Georgina’s collection is inspired by the familiar and the alien in her own body, specifically the skin on her hand. She plays with dusty blue and pale flesh tones, wrinkles, folds, shiny and dull textiles. It’s beautiful, weird and, yes, a bit unsettling.

Coming across the work of young Italian painter Guglielmo Castelli feels like hitting the art jackpot. I am in love with these paintings. Aren’t they exquisite and so full of life?

I always liked geometry, doing proofs and all that, but these little pie charts take it to a whole new (aesthetic) level. And by “pie charts” I mean magnets and pins. I would snap up the magnets if only they would work on our sadly nonmagnetic refrigerator…
