I did a little dance when I came across the early work of photographer Grant Mudford. In the 1970’s Grant traveled across the US with funding from his native Australia. These photographs were taken in Los Angeles, Mexico and Houston – a region known for its perennial blue skies and sunshine. Shooting in black and white film has a transporting effect – it’s a different view of these areas – one in which form, composition and texture trump glitz and glamour.
