Atsuko Tanaka Print Giveaway!

January 24th, 2011 · 21 Comments

Update: We have a winner, Karolien! Thanks so much to all who entered!

The Current Show is an online (UK-based) gallery run by Serena and Vladimir that sells prints of up-and-coming contemporary artists. The company just launched a new line of prints by Japanese artist, Atsuko Tanaka and in celebration they are giving away a print of Light of Autumn (below) on Art Hound!  The print is an edition of 100 and measures approx. 10″ x 20″.

Light of Autumn

“When summer ends and fall begins, the sky climbs higher and the sunshine lowers and tenders. And it starts to shine softly and gently. This artwork depicts the idea of such a sky and light reflected on the flowers.”

Tanaka grew up in the Japanese countryside and was strongly influenced by the time she spent working in a flower shop. She graduated from Nagoya Zokei University of Arts and Design in 1999 and now works as a freelance illustrator.

Cherry Blossoms

“Cherry blossoms announce the coming of spring. Japanese are truly looking forward to see them bloom. They are always beautiful whichever they are in bud, blooming, in full bloom or falling. Even fallen petals in the river are fascinating.”

Justin Richel Print Giveaway!

April 19th, 2010 · 12 Comments

Update: Congrats to winner, Leigh-Ann, of Swirl Syndicate! Seriously check out her adorable and hilarious line of baby and kiddie T’s.

Next Monday I will be giving away this Justin Richel letterpress print thanks to one of my favorite print shop, Little Paper Planes! To win, leave a comment between today and Sunday, April 25th. The print, which measures 6″ x 9″, is a Little Paper Planes exclusive and part of an edition of 45.

“The stacks for me are about the precarious balance, they allude to the fragility of circumstance. For instance the stack can only exist so long as all of its pieces are cooperating together, to shift or remove a piece would inevitably send the whole thing crashing to the ground.  So the paintings themselves become social commentary. I try to draw parallels between human interaction and the stuff that we surround our selves with.” – excerpt from Justin’s interview with LPP.
