Gifts for the introvert // The Beholder

December 20th, 2011 · No Comments

With less than a week left til xmas I present you with the fourth and last installment of the Art Hound Gift Guide. This installment rounds up works from online gallery The Beholder – a great place to look for original pieces on paper and photography under $1,000. I chose pieces that were soft, beautiful and understated imagining them for that dear friend or sibling who’s read every Classic and whose favorite movie is Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides.

Gifts for the Colorist – Mammoth & Co.

December 12th, 2011 · 2 Comments

Still looking for gifts? The Art Hound Gift Guide is here to inspire and motivate you in your holiday shopping. Each installment features artwork from a different art site picked especially for a certain someone on your list.

Today’s guide is for the people in our life who live for color. You know, your aunt, who always wears turquoise or kelly green with red lipstick or your sister who is currently obsessed with magenta. The six awesome prints below are all from The Mammoth Collection, truly one of my favorite online print shops. And while Mammoth also features a lot of more subtle, reflective art, it’s a wonderful source of art with color! And not just any color, but bright, bold sassy color that really makes a statement.

gifts for the animal lover — animalia

November 30th, 2011 · 6 Comments

I don’t care what anyone says to the contrary, art (especially affordable art) makes a great gift! As we’re now in the midst of holiday shopping mania, I’m excited to share this little gift guide – each post will feature a different art site geared towards a particular recipient.

I’m kicking off with Animalia, a great little shop full of animal-themed art and playful ephemera for the animal-loving kids and adults on your list. Everything on this site feels really hand-picked, which is something I really admire when shopping online. No one wants a generic gift!
