These paintings by Harlinde De Mol of Belgium are dark and sexually graphic and represent the human body as dynamic yet burdensome. I appreciate that despite De Mol’s grotesque depiction of the body – in various forms of decay and amputation – there is unexpected beauty in color, form and composition. There is also inherent beauty in the the organs she depicts in their very nature of sustaining and creating life.
