These are some mighty beautiful and heavy portraits by Amy Sherald (via Booooom). Sherald paints her African American figures without color, in striking shades of gray that still manage to read as black. Her figures perform hackneyed acts that allude to perceptions of black identity. I love how strong and serious her subjects stand and the beautiful, colorful patterns of their clothes.
