Anastasia Ugorskaya – New Work

August 27th, 2012 · 2 Comments

I blogged about Anastasia Ugorskaya back in 2010 and that post gets more mentions than any other in Art Hound’s history. I guess many of you share my strong feelings about Anastasia’s work! The artist has been pretty quiet, but she did update her website with these three paintings from 2012. I am eagerly awaiting more!

Artist Crush: Anastasia Ugorskaya

October 25th, 2010 · 9 Comments

I’ve been drooling over the work of Anastasia Ugorskaya since I first lay eyes on it this morning on Design Squish. Anastasia hails from Russia, attended Cooper Union in NYC and now lives in Brooklyn. She works primarily in watercolor and her technique is so good it’s making my heart pitter-patter. This is a serious crush. Sigh.

“My work is about the natural world and the human being.  It is an exploration of how the human understands nature.  If there was nothing else and nobody else but the tree and me, what would I think about the tree?  What would I think about myself? What if I forgot all my knowledge about the tree and myself and had to explain it all over again? I look at history and find different ways people explained the natural world.  Leaves reach to the sun because they want to be transparent. The earth is the center of the world.  I am fascinated and inspired by these discoveries that cannot be proved easily, that are sometimes controversial, personal and intuitive.”
