Gifts for the Colorist – Mammoth & Co.

December 12th, 2011 · 2 Comments

Still looking for gifts? The Art Hound Gift Guide is here to inspire and motivate you in your holiday shopping. Each installment features artwork from a different art site picked especially for a certain someone on your list.

Today’s guide is for the people in our life who live for color. You know, your aunt, who always wears turquoise or kelly green with red lipstick or your sister who is currently obsessed with magenta. The six awesome prints below are all from The Mammoth Collection, truly one of my favorite online print shops. And while Mammoth also features a lot of more subtle, reflective art, it’s a wonderful source of art with color! And not just any color, but bright, bold sassy color that really makes a statement.

gifts for the animal lover — animalia

November 30th, 2011 · 6 Comments

I don’t care what anyone says to the contrary, art (especially affordable art) makes a great gift! As we’re now in the midst of holiday shopping mania, I’m excited to share this little gift guide – each post will feature a different art site geared towards a particular recipient.

I’m kicking off with Animalia, a great little shop full of animal-themed art and playful ephemera for the animal-loving kids and adults on your list. Everything on this site feels really hand-picked, which is something I really admire when shopping online. No one wants a generic gift!

collectors crush: rosenfield collection

November 1st, 2011 · 1 Comment

The Rosenfield Collection is a site for public consumption containing 1,864 ceramics from the collection of David and Louise Rosenfield. This is a really exciting idea for big collectors – giving the public access to your art during your lifetime via the internet.

BUY SOME DAMN ART!

November 1st, 2011 · No Comments

Buy Some Damn Art is my brand new site that will host weekly sales of original art from $200 to $500! The first show is a series of work inspired by the concept of wabi-sabi by MICA grads and close friends, Becca Stadtlander and Yelena Bryksenkova.

Curious to know how Buy Some Damn Art works? Every Tuesday at noon a new sale will open but the artist featured (as well as the artwork) will only be revealed at the launch. So if you want to stay on top of the shows as they launch I recommend signing up for the BSDA mailing list. I’ll be sending out one email a week to let you know that the sale is live. Go check the site out (it was designed by the very cool ladies at The Dye Lab) and, yes, I have to say it, BUY SOME DAMN ART!

big announcement!

The online art world has exploded over the last decade. It’s brought us artists we might never have discovered and an array of gorgeous prints by many talented artists. But one thing there hasn’t been much of is curated, affordable art… originals that is.

Buy Some Damn Art is my attempt to fill this hole. It’s only a small piece of the larger puzzle, but I believe that’s how independent art will continue to grow – organically, little by little.

Buy Some Damn Art is an online gallery showing the work of promising “under-the-radar” artists. Every Tuesday at noon a new show will open with a tiny grouping of original works starting at $200.

It’s kick-ass art. It’s affordable. And it’s all online. Launching Nov. 1st!

Sign-up here for updates and weekly sale launches. Keep in touch here and here.

It’s cheap, impermanent and youthful.
