Renaissance Revisted: Jeffrey Chong Wang

Tuesday, January 12, 2016 · 1 Comment

Jeffrey Chong Wang is a contemporary painter whose work inevitably brings up comparisons to the Northern Renaissance. The subject matter, clothing and props are modern, if ambiguous, but the delicate application of detail, stylized representation of the human body and tightly- orchestrated compositions point back to the Dutch and Flemish painters from the 1400 to 1600’s. Accomplishing this level of technicality is no small feat; however, the beauty, humor and sense of mystery in the work is what seals the deal.
