David Gilbert is a Los Angeles artist whose medium is the artist habitat. While these spaces have the general appearance of an artist studio, they are not the real thing and have actually been mocked-up and beautifully shot by the artist. Each object seems to exist solely to balance the others – creating the perfect composition with just the right amount of chaos.
“The subjects, although they appear like accidental compositions of studio residue, are carefully staged by Gilbert and then carefully lit for the photographs. Rather than captures of the scraps left behind by creating work, the messy scenes are the works themselves.” – Allison Meier on Hyperallergic

these are fantastic. I have long thought that the my studio is as interesting if not more interesting than the individual pieces alone. what a great concept.
