I came across Sophie Delaporte & Astier de Villatte’s book on Alder & Co ( the photos are from Italian Vogue). They are masterful, aren’t they? The NY Times art critic references Dali (below), but what’s top of mind for me is Magritte’s surrealism and Rembrant’s precision and obsession with light.
“Sophie Delaporte’s photographs for Astier de Villatte are as full of mystery as a collection of Simenon stories, as charged with ambiguity as a painting by Dali, and as partial to whimsy as a song by Noel Coward.” – Vicki Goldberg, New York Times
