Day At The Club

Michael Wetzel paints rococo scenes of champagne, steamed lobster, manicured lawns and crustless tea sandwiches. His paintings are currently on view at La Montaigne Gallery in South Boston.

What fascinates me is the lack of any real sense of time – these scenes could be of summers 100 years past or in the present. The message seems to be “look how awfully old-fashioned all of this is?”

Really love these! It’s easy to keep looking, and you will inevitably find more details in each scene.

so true! it took me at least an hour to pick out which paintings to feature. they definitely change a lot as you look at them.
