Design Crush: Coffee Making

Tuesday, March 15, 2011 · 6 Comments

I’m crushing on these coffee makers and accessories that are lo-fi and beautiful and presumably work well too.

Perhaps one day one of these will replace our much loved Chambord.

That non-electric espresso machine is genius! It’s not even that expensive (way less than most electric espresso machines). We live off the grid, so we’re always looking for tools to make the stuff we love with elbow grease instead of electricity.

Thanks for the tip. These “Design Crush” ideas always make my day.

Hi Camille, isn’t that cool? My dad has a legit espresso machine from Italy and man, they aren’t cheap! This is definitely a great solution. I’d be curious what user say about them though.

Thanks for the shout out! Design Crushes is probably my favorite thing to write each week. : )

Also check out Merge Cup: http://mergecup.blogspot.com/. It caught Dolan’s eye at the winter NYIGF and he gave up coffee over 2 years ago!

These are all wonderful!! I especially love the first one. So elegant and simple. Such great design.
That non-electric espresso machine is an interesting idea. I was wandering how it will produce the needed pressure and laughed to read on their website:
“5 to 10 bars of pressure depending on how firmly the arms are pressed down” 🙂 5 to 10 bars are usually enough for good coffee, I wonder if there’s a way to measure how strong I am (in bars…..) before I buy it! 🙂

    Great post Kate!! x
