American Illustration 29 – Top 10

Thursday, February 17, 2011 · 2 Comments

My copy of American Illustration 29 arrived today and there was too much goodness not to share… starting with the cover by Sam Weber. It features a vampire-like man (who reminds me of Kris Knight’s portraits) in stunning detail who is dripping with honey while pale petals flutter around him. It’s both creepy and startlingly beautiful, and it only gets better from here.

The cover comes off to reveal a subtle pattern and a totally-unexpected honeycomb cut-out on the spine. How amazing is that?

The cover opens up to a pretty far-out poster, again by Sam Weber.

.American Illustration 29 (like every other edition) is a meaty book with a few hundred pages of eye-popping art. So of course in my obsessive tendency, I scoured every page to compile a list of my favorites.

Here are my top 10:

10. Robert Meganck

.

9. Jared Purrington

.

8. Mark Allen Miller

.

7. Lucio Schiavon

.

6. Mari Mitsumi

.

5. Adrian Forrow

.

4. Laurie Holinka

.

3. Erik Mark Sandberg

.

2. Stella Lee

.

1. Sam Weber

Wow! Thanks for sharing -I haven’t picked up an Illustration Annual in years. Styles have changed so much but the talent still seems to be abundant. LOVE, love, love the honeycomb design cover -just juicy!
