The Art Of Using Trash

Monday, January 31, 2011 · 4 Comments

As a non-artist, I am amazed by a lot of things artists do (and seem to do effortlessly!), and this is one of them – magically create beauty out of scant or unusual materials. Here Renilde Depeuter of AT SWIM – TWO – BIRDS took leftover paper scraps intended for the trash and created a stunning, collage city.

Not only did Renilde create beautiful art out of trash, she also managed to create something that is distinctly hers. Just compare her collage to one of her embroidered works, such as Land of Rivers, below, and you immediately recognize the same kinds of shapes and loose, organic patterns.

ha! i love it! another reason i am not an artist… i am obsessed with throwing stuff out (and recycling and giving things away, of course!).

i like renilde’s matchups- these are nice studies of form, color and shape. i need to do studies of that sort more often, so it’s inspiring to see others 🙂
