I discovered the work of Goele Dewanckel on Brown Paper Bag and the first thing that came to mind was how reminiscent her work was of the late Margaret Killgallen (there’s an awesome PBS segment on her here!). Both Dewanckel and Kilgallen paint flat-as-a-pancake figures with exaggerated feminine qualities like big red lips and the long thick hair. Both alternate between thin and fat lines, blurring the distinction between painting and drawing.

Margaret Kilgallen at work (below) and her paintings. Kilgallen is quoted as saying she loved that “things that show the evidence of the human hand.”
