I discovered Willy Verginer’s playful wooden sculpture on The jealous curator and couldn’t help but post about my big crush on him. His work is remarkably vibrant for sculpture, a result of Verginer’s technical acuity and his use of striking, modern visual elements.

Sculpture as a medium has remained quite traditional over time, and it’s rare to see modern themes and visual elements as we so often do in painting/ illustration/ photography. This is all the more reason why Verginer’s work stands out; it really pushes the boundaries of sculpture, bringing it into the context of life in the 21st century. His incorporation of bold, graphic, perspective-based visual elements shakes up the medium and gives the work a really fresh, modern and striking perspective. I’m smittened.
