The Ties that Bind: Meredith Dittmar

Wednesday, December 2, 2009 · 3 Comments

I swear there are so many super-talented artists selling affordable art ! Even when I have less time to “discover” artists, I still find many more than I have time to feature!

I read about Meredith Dittmar on FF and had to share her stunning, unusual work in polymer clay. Meredith’s work is rooted in the idea that we are all connected to the world around us, to nature, other living creatures, and the intangible things that transcend the physical.

“Dittmars human-animal-plant-energy amalgams contain threads of common elements and colors to express deep levels of union across themes of biology, technology, and consciousness.” You can read more here.

Much of Dittmar’s work is available on her website. See below for some of my favorites. Dittmar also sells quirky clay figures she calls “my guys” ($15-20) which would make a really fun gift!

This challenge is mostly a personal challenge. Make it as hard as you want to on yourself. But, the goal remains. Try to make it look as pixel perfect as possible using the tools and skills you have at your disposal. Like with many jobs in this industry, renders won’t be judged on how hard it was to make. It will be judged on how close to the original (storyboard) it looks.
